Gray mouse lemur

Gray mouse lemur (Microcebus murinus) in a tree. Also known as the lesser mouse lemur, this species of primate is found in western and southern Madagascar. It is one of the smallest primates with a combined body and tail length of 25 centimetres. Almost entirely arboreal (tree-dwelling), it feeds mainly on insects, with large eyes helping it to see at night. All lemurs are endemic to Madagascar, where they evolved in isolation from other primates after Madagascar became geographically isolated from Africa. Many lemur species are becoming increasingly rare due to habitat destruction. Photographed in the Berenty Reserve, Madagascar

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the enchanting presence of a Gray mouse lemur, also known as the lesser mouse lemur, gracefully perched on a tree branch in western and southern Madagascar. With its delicate features and endearing gaze, this primate species showcases the remarkable biodiversity found on this isolated island. Measuring only 25 centimeters in total length, including its tail, the Gray mouse lemur is one of the smallest primates in existence. Its predominantly arboreal lifestyle allows it to navigate effortlessly through the lush forest canopy. Equipped with large eyes that aid nocturnal vision, this tiny creature relies on insects as its primary source of sustenance. Endemic to Madagascar, lemurs like this Gray mouse lemur evolved independently from other primates after geographical isolation severed their ties with Africa. Unfortunately, many lemur species face an uncertain future due to habitat destruction caused by human activities. Photographed within the magnificent Berenty Reserve in Madagascar, this image serves as a poignant reminder of both the beauty and fragility of our natural world. It invites us to appreciate these rare creatures and raises awareness about conservation efforts needed to protect them for generations to come.
